Planning my kid's birthday party

I’ve tried to stay frugal in planning my son’s upcoming 3rd birthday bonanza… Here are some practical things I’ve tried to do to keep his Lightning McQueen – Cars birthday party within budget:

Buy meat that is on sale for grilling out.  Giant Food has some great sales plus an awesome Internet printable coupon for $5 off your $15 meat purchase.

Make my own Cars cake like this one.

Make some of the party decor, such as “Piston Cup Trophies” from empty coffee cans and gold spray paint

Buy party items at the dollar store and my local party discount store using my coupons from a recent ValPak or SuperCoups mailing for $2 off $10 purchase, $5 off $25 purchase, and discounted balloons.

I plan to scope out Harris Teeter and Bloom during their upcoming double and triple coupon events to see if I can use any of my $1 and high value coupons on plates and cups for the party.

I’ll keep you updated on my progress as the party is less than a week away!
