Transferring Offers in Northern Virginia – Current Offers

My sister recently was asking me if I knew of any great coupons out there for transferring prescriptions, since she knows I’ve become a coupon-a-houlic lately!  That question/quest got me thinking, and I decided to try and research all the prescription transfer offers that are currently out there in the Northern Virginia area.

First of all, here is a good blog post by Jenny of Southern Savers with information on how to maximize gift cards and other offers when transferring your prescriptions.

Here are the best prescription transfer (or just prescription-related) offers I could find that are currently going on in the Northern Virginia area:

Rite Aid: There are two printable coupons that are good for a $25 gift card when you transfer a prescription (limit 1 per coupon).  So you can transfer up to 2 prescriptions and get a $25 gift card for each.  That is $50 in gift cards total!  Coupon expires 9/30/09 (thanks Holly for the tip on new coupon!). Offer only valid when prescription is filled and paid for at time of transfer. Transfer offer only valid on any prescription not previously filled at our transferred from other Rite Aid locations.

Safeway: There is a coupon currently available for a $30 Safeway gift card when you transfer a prescription.  I found the coupon in the weekly circular flyer for 8/26-9/1. Coupon expires 9/30/09. There may have been the same coupon in previous week’s flyers as well.   If you missed out, you can probably pick up one of the circulars near the front of the store.

K-Mart: There is a coupon/form that allows you to get up to 4 K-Mart gift cards of up to $25 each ($100 total), with the transfer of up to 4 prescriptions. Note: The gift card value can only be as high as the actual prescription price. Coupon expires 12/31/09.

Walgreens: $25 check when you transfer over a prescription and stay with them for 6 months. I was told this on the phone by the pharmacist at the new Manassas location near Costco. She said that you can come in and ask for the form to fill out for this offer. Limit one offer per person, not sure when offer expires.

CVS: Updated 9/8/09: I found out about a new coupon here for a $25 CVS gift card when you transfer a prescription.  Coupon expires 10/18/09.
According to pharmacist on the phone at one of the CVS locations in Manassas they do accept competitor coupons for these offers.

Shoppers Food: Offer mentioned on their website for 20% off a future grocery trip when you get a flu shot and transfer a prescription.  I don’t think this is the best offer compared to the others (for example, if in your normal Shoppers grocery trip you spend $80, you can get $16 off, but there are some restrictions that apply).
Flu shot customers can also receive 20% savings on a future grocery shopping trip when they take advantage of another pharmacy service such as:

  • New and transferred prescriptions
  • Diabetes programs
  • Immunizations that help prevent Shingles, Pneumonia, Hepatitis, Meningitis, and other conditions
  • Medication therapy management
  • Health screenings

*Not all services are available at all locations. This offer is not valid for prescriptions reimbursed by a federal- or state-funded health program. Other restrictions apply. Offer limited to one per household with qualifying prescription or service through 12/31/09. Expires 12/31/09.

Walmart: There is a new $4 prescription offer. “Our $4 Prescriptions Program now includes 90-day prescriptions for just $10, as well as an expanded list of over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications, including many focused specifically on women’s health.”

Giant Food: Generic Program$9.99 for up to a 90-day supply of 350 of the most commonly prescribed generic medications. Also, the pharmacist told me that they do accept competitor’s coupons (like Safeway’s current $30 gift card coupon).
Also, Giant has the following offer listed in the weekly circular: Extended through Dec. 31. Save more. Feel good. Free antibiotics*.
*If your physician feels you need an antibiotic, just bring in your prescription and you can get up to a 14-day supply of select generic antibiotics free with your Giant Bonus Card.  See pharmacist for details.  Only available in stores with full-service pharmacies.
Expires 12/31/09.

Wegmans: According to the pharmacist at the Gainesville, VA location, they currently have a promotion for a $20 coupon off a future grocery purchase, for new prescription customers/transfers at their pharmacy.  In order to get the $20 coupon, you first must use the punch card that they give you, and get 10 punches (you get 1 punch each time you refill a prescription for your household).  This offer expires 11/29/09.

Wegman’s also has a generic drug program that appears to be similar to Walmart and Giant.  Their offers are:
$4 for 30-day prescriptions*
$10 for 90-day prescriptions*
Free antibiotics with prescriptions*
