This cooler weather we’ve had the past few days is making me look forward to the Fall!
Last fall, my 3-year old (then 2-year old) and I made our first trip to the annual Fall Festival at Cox Farms in Centreville, VA. We went with a group of friends and had a blast! There are so many fun activities for the kids (including 5 giant slides, a hayride, farm animals, goat village, and tasty treats like free samples of local apples and fresh cider, and a small pumpkin to take home) so needless to say we had a great time. I have to admit though, the frugal part of me was wondering why children 2 years old and above had to pay the same full price ($9 on weekdays and $15 on weekends/holidays) as adults? I felt I had to stay practically all afternoon to make sure that I got my money’s worth. I understand that small family-owned businesses often cannot give big discounts or freebies (since my husband owns his own business, I really understand that firsthand), but because of the somewhat hefty admission price I thought this might be a once a year or perhaps biennial event for our family and friends (and since a lot of our friends have large families, they wouldn’t be as eager to go join us for a day at the fall festival with that many full-price tickets to purchase).
I was determined to figure out a way to come back next year a little bit cheaper, by searching for coupons or a special discount weekend. To my glee, I found out that if you sign up to be a “Member”–which is basically just signing up to be on their e-mail distribution/mailing list–you get access to special member discounts and coupons throughout the year. I signed up and was ecstatic to see that currently all members can access two free tickets for opening weekend, September 19-20, 2009 (just two and a half weeks away).
So if you’re interested in taking the kids to a fun fall activity day at the farm, I highly suggest you sign up to be a member today so you can access the following 2009 offers for Cox Farm members:
- Two free tickets for opening weekend September 19-20, 2009 (You must sign up to be a member no later than September 16, 2009 to be qualified for this offer. Please note that you must have a valid membership to redeem this coupon, as they will check at the gate to make sure you are indeed on their member roster.)
- 33% savings for the month of September for all members of your group. Bring friends and you all save!
- Afternoon Delights Special Offers. Visit on weekday afternoons and save with 2 offers:
Senior Tuesdays – bring a senior citizen (60+) for free any Tuesday after 12 pm. Limit one free senior citizen per one paid admission.
Weekday Afternoon Value Card – get 2 weekday afternoon admissions FREE when you buy 5 admissions; this can be used all on the same day, for example for big families, or on different days)
- “Value festival tips” for a whole list of money-saving ideas.
