Recovering from holiday travels

I’m recovering from holiday travels today…and perhaps all week! :-)

You know: recovering from the 12+ hour drive home, arriving home around 2:30 AM, catching up on the dreaded laundry pile that I left at home and the whole week’s worth of dirty clothes in our suitcases, cleaning/tidying the house, buying groceries (why didn’t I plan out some freezer meals for the first few days after our return home?), dropping off 1 item for dry cleaning that had gum stuck on it, buying “essential items” that we are completely out of such as hair gel for my husband :-), more laundry, catching up on my part-time work (it seems like work never stands still, but just piles up when you take off more than 1 or 2 days!), errands, trying to use up all my coupons that are about to expire today 11/30/09, meal plan, etc.

Sorry that I have not written much during the highly anticipated deal days of the year (Black Friday and Cyber Monday).  Being out-of-town over the Thanksgiving holiday has kept me busy, plus I assume that if you read my blog, you most definitely are checking other frugal bloggers in the Northern VA/ DC Area as well as big time deal bloggers that cover national deals like Money Saving Mom, Mrs. MoneySaver, and Moneywise Moms just to name a few. These ladies keep you in the know of awesome deals!

I hope you all snagged some great deals over the past few days.  I went to Walgreens while I was visiting my in-laws and gave my mom a list, coupons and cash for Rite Aid on their 3-day Black Friday deals (closest Rite Aid to the Chicago area was about 80 miles away, and one state over… in Michigan :-( so my mom was kind of enough to go shopping for me here in NOVA). Was anyone else thrown off that our local (N. Va.) Rite Aid Black Friday ad did not match the posted one on The Bic Soleil did not have an in-ad coupon, and the Dial soap was not on sale for $0.99. Bummer!

Other than that, I’ve kept it pretty low-key and haven’t gone bonkers with shopping. That’s the advantage of saving and stocking up on good deals throughout the year: you’re not under pressure to get a ton of gifts in the last month before Christmas. Don’t get me wrong though, I still have some more things to buy in the next 3.5 weeks. I’ll let you know of what good deals I find!
