VA Sales Tax Holiday for School Supplies & Clothing

Starting today, Friday August 6th through Sunday August 8th is the State of Virginia’s Tax Holiday for School Supplies & Clothing. The first full weekend of August each year (since 2005) is designated as a tax holiday for certain back-to-school shopping. Check out this list of qualifying items that you can buy tax-free (as long as each item is $20 or less).

“School supply,” means an item that is commonly used by a student in a course of study. For purposes of the sales tax holiday, the term includes, “school art supply,” “school instructional material,” and “school music supply.” The term does not include computers or “school computer supplies”, and such items may not be purchased exempt of the tax.
