On TV: Must-Attend Fall Events Near DC

This weekend I had the opportunity to stop by the Fox 5 DC studio to be a guest on Fox 5 Morning News!

On the first, full day of fall, I sat down with Annie Yu to discuss some of the must-attend events near DC this autumn. In case you missed it, here’s a recap of what I shared!

1. Washington International Horse Show
Location: Capital One Arena (formerly Verizon Center), 601 F Street, NW, Washington, DC 20004.
Dates: October 24 – 29, 2017.

Description: If you like animals, championship sports, and fast-paced entertainment, this is the event for you! An equestrian tradition since 1958, the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) is the country’s leading metropolitan indoor horse show. Over 500 of the top national and international horses and riders, including Olympic veterans, come together in Washington, DC, to compete in six days of thrilling competition and entertaining exhibitions.
Highlights include:

  • WIHS Equitation Finals featuring the country’s top junior riders

2. The Glow: A Jack ‘O Lantern Experience
Location: Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr, Reston, VA 20190.
Dates: Weekends Oct. 5 – 29, 2017.

Description: The Glow: A Jack ‘O Lantern Experience is a unique, family-friendly spectacle that includes over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins created by master carvers. Your family can stroll along the 1/3 mile trail to view intricately designed, illuminated jack o’ lanterns. In the Pre-Historic Park, jack o’ lantern dinosaurs stand up to 16 feet tall. Captain Jack and his band of marauders helm a 30-foot-long pirate ship, complete with skeletons and pumpkin pirates. In the pumpkin graveyard, guests will encounter black cats, ghosts, and gravestones. The Glow also illuminates some of Capital City’s most famous! Get the chance to see pumpkin look-a-likes including top celebrities, plus superheroes and princesses. The family fun also includes costume contests, pumpkin painting classes, and a face painting station. There will also be live pumpkin carving demonstrations to show visitors how to create own masterpieces at home.

3. Historic Occoquan Arts & Crafts Festival
Location: Downtown Historic Occoquan located in Prince William County, VA.
Dates:
Sat. Sep. 23 – Sun. 24, 2017.
Cost: Free.
Description: The small, historic, riverside town of Occoquan located in Prince William County VA, closes down its streets to host this award winning festival twice a year (fall and spring). They host over 300 artisans and crafters, plus have live entertainment, great food, and fun activities for kids. More than 10,000 people visit Occoquan for fun, food, and shopping. This is the 48th year for this one-of-a-kind outdoor street festival and a great place to buy unique, handmade gifts! 4. Annual Fall Harvest Festival at Summers Farm
Location: Summers Farm, 5620 Butterfly Lane, Frederick, MD 21703
Dates: Sep. 23 – Oct. 31, 2017
Cost: Tickets start at $10.
Description:
This is Summers Farm’s 21st year hosting their fall harvest festival! This is a must-visit event for the whole family in Frederick, Maryland. Fall farm attractions including a military themed cornfield maze, live entertainment, wagon rides, pig races, slides, jumping pillows, Friday & Saturday night fireworks & more.
